Anhui Foreign Languages University (AFLU), established with the approval of the National Ministry of Education, is the only provincial university specializing in foreign languages education. Of the thirteen foreign language institutions engaged in undergraduate education in the country, ours is the only one situated in Central China.
Located in the National Forest Park of Zipeng Mountains, AFLU boasts a campus with distinctive features and styles of European architecture. Adhering to the school motto of “A good command of Chinese and western culture and perfect integration of theory and practice,” the university is committed to training professional and high-quality talents with a strong mastery of foreign language skills, and equipping them for making careers in cultural and tourist sectors as well as foreign-related enterprises.
With a full-time study body of over 12,000, AFLU comprises the Western Languages School, Eastern Languages School, International Economy School, International Commerce School, International Tourism School, Arts and Mass Media School and Continuing Education School aside with three general knowledge education departments, namely, College English Department, Public Basic Course Department and Ideological and Political Course Department.
Now, the university offers 33 junior college majors, 25 undergraduate majors and 3 international cooperative programs, encompassing disciplines of literature, economics and management sciences, etc., offering programs such as international trade, business management, tourism, art and foreign languages, including English, Japanese, German, Korean, Russian, French, Spanish and Arabic. As a university which offers the largest number of foreign language programs in Anhui province along with a variety of foreign-related majors, AFLU has formed its own disciplinary characteristics. Some of its majors, such as English, Japanese, International Economics &Trade, Accounting, Customs Declaration and Hotel Management, etc. have been accredited as key majors at provincial level.
Advocating revitalizing university through talents, AFLU is staffed with a distinguished faculty of over 600 members, including 36 professors, 144 associate professors as well as 16 foreign teachers from different countries. Moreover, the university has invested in advanced teaching facilities with over 46 experimental and training labs available, including sophisticated digital language labs, internet-based self-access learning centers, international trade workshops, and training labs for stock investment, accounting computerization, and finance, etc.. In addition, the university has a logistics management training base supported by the central finance and a tourism training base at provincial level, plus about 100 off-campus training centers and internship bases.
AFLU has set up an International Exchange Center and has signed co-operative agreements with several international educational institutions in Australia, France, Japan, USA, Russia, Poland, and South Korea in order to provide more opportunities for those who intend to go abroad for further studies as well as open up greater prospects for their professional development, so far two groups having completed the first phase study of a two-year course in AFLU and gone abroad to complete the second phase of education. On top of that, the university has set up training centers and overseas study service centers in the best interests of the students who intend to obtain various certificates or study abroad.
In recent years, AFLU’s achievement in education has received widespread attention from both mass media and the society. For example, it has been awarded Advanced Regular Institution of Higher Learning in Employment by Anhui Education Department for several years in a row and rated as employment base for college students at provincial and municipal level and demonstrative college with innovation and entrepreneurship for college students, who will be nurtured and trained to find employment after graduation mainly in such industries as foreign trade, finance, commerce, aviation, tourism and so on. Quite a few foreign trade corporations would like to recruit our students majoring in German, Korean, French, Spanish and other languages which are in high demand. Besides, AFLU is also one of the first universities entering into the autonomous enrollment of students upgrading from junior college to university study. The admission rate of newly-upgraded students of junior college ranks top among similar colleges at provincial level with part of students being enrolled into graduate schools of top-notch universities.
AFLU is now making steady strides towards the goal of building a high-level university specializing in foreign languages as well as foreign-related majors of economics and management to cultivate more outstanding and competitive talents to meet the increasingly needs of the social and economic development of our country.
